Chives – Allium schoenoprasum
A clump forming perennial with attractive purple flowers, popular with pollinating insects.
H.P. - plant 25cms/ 10ins apart. Plant in succession to provide fresh supply. Lift and divide at the end of summer-early autumn. Flowers can be used as well.
Cut off leaves and snip in to salads, sauces and soups, the flowers have a milder onion taste and can be used as a garnish.
The leaves will not withstand very cold winters.
