Pesticides Action Week

Pesticide Free Week

A call to all allotment holders and gardeners – put down your insecticide spray gun and lock away your slug pellets for at least a week!

The Office International du Coin de Terre et des Jardins Familiaux, of which the Society is a founder members calls on all its affiliated federations to encourage their members to refrain from using all plant protection products, other than natural gardening methods, during Pesticides Action Week 20- 30 March 2015.

Friends of the Earth are asking for your support to help them protect bees

Ask Europe's Pesticides Commissioner to stand up to chemical giants and strengthen the current ban on bee-harming pesticides.

Chemical company Bayer just lost a court case in which it sued Friends of the Earth Germany over its claims that a pesticide called thiacloprid harms bees. And in a separate case Bayer and pesticide firm Syngenta are using the courts to try and overturn Europe’s current ban on three different neonicotinoid pesticides. Each were found to pose a “high acute risk” to honey bees. Thiacloprid is not one of the banned pesticides and is still being sold across Europe, including the UK.

If we ask the Pesticides Commissioner to defend bees he’ll know that there’s wide support to strengthen the existing ban and take thiacloprid off our shelves too.
