Aminopyralid in Manure

Farmyard manure offers big benefits to gardeners and allotment holders. It improves soil structure, encourages beneficial soil organisms and provides valuable crop nutrients. Last year a number ofgardeners were unfortunate to have sourced manure with aminopyralid.

The chance of manure purchased this spring containing aminopyralid is much less, even so it is important to be sure that you know how the manure has been produced.

You can avoid damage to sensitive crops by asking the supplier of your manure if the animals that produce it were fed on forage treated with Forefront, Pharaoh or Banish. Though only a tiny area of pasture were treated with these products last year, itsbetter to be safe than sorry.

www.manurematters.co.uk website provides useful information on this subject as well as a simple but effective way of testing manure for herbicide contamination.
