Radishes

At this time of year, I sow in a well sheltered bed, as late frosts can be an issue. The soil is raked down roughly, and shallow trenches or 'drills' drawn out, in this case, just with my fingers.

The seed can then be sown into these drills. Take care not so sow too thickly, though radishes are cropped young, it is always best not to over-sow.

Once sown, gently cover the drills back over and lightly firm down.

Use a fine-rose on your watering can give the seed bed a good watering. They should start to germinate within a week. If you have cloches or similar then this will speed up the process, just remember to give then seedlings some air on sunny days.

Between this stage and developing the first 'true' leaves I find a good time to sow the next small batch to ensure and small but continuous supply.
