Fennel

Overview

Fennel – Foeniculum vulgare

A beautiful aromatic perennial, strongly scented with aniseed, that will attract bees. Both the feathery leaves and seeds go well with oily fish and the seeds can be added to salads and breads; crushed and steeped the seeds make a delicious tea- add a slice of orange for extra flavour.

How to grow

H.P. - 2mt/ 6 feet grows in any soil, prefers a sunny position.

How to Harvest

Nip off leaves through the season and harvest seed heads the minute they turn brown; the leaves can be dried but will lose much of their flavour.

Issues

Will self-seed if flower heads are left but seedlings can be easily removed.
