National Allotments Week 2017

This year the Society is delighted with the number of sites opening up for the campaign week (or at other dates over the summer). So if you are looking for a site to visit check our NAW page  and  facebook page

As Nick Hamilton from Barnsdale Gardens says in his comment below, allotments bring great benefits and this week is the opportunity for interested gardeners to go along and check them out for themselves.

“Allotments have been an essential of so many people's lives over millennia and they have always been all the better for it, but this is only known to a small fraction of our nation. So, whether you garden singularly on your allotment plot or you're part of a community, National Allotment Week gives us the perfect opportunity to spread the word about all the fantastic opportunities and rewards that being part of an allotment group can bring. We really don't want to keep this secret to ourselves, because there are so many potential allotmenteers and volunteers out there primed and ready for the experience, the problem is that they don't know it yet!”

Barnsdale has its own brilliant allotment garden and loads of ideas for growing fruit and vegetables in many of it 38 gardens including the famous Ornamental Kitchen Garden. Come and see them at Barnsdale Summer Vegetable Weekend 19th-20th August 2017. The National Allotment Society will be there on the Sunday and we still have a few places left on our allotment course for beginners. Click here for details.

As they have done over the previous 2 years the Guardian newspaper Witness section is calling for images from your plot. Click on the link to upload your images and, NAS members, remember to send them them to us also for our Shield Insurance photo competition

If you do not want to upload the images yourself, email them to diane@nsalg.org.uk and we will do it for you.

Here's to a great week and many more years of allotment gardening.
