Starkholmes Allotments, Matlock is a two acre site under serious threat. In July 2021 the private landlord served the plot-holders notice to quit and clear the site by September 2022, with likely intention of selling the land for housing development. The petition is directed to Derbyshire Dales District Council and Matlock Town Council, to start the Compulsory Purchase Order process for this site, to allow growing to continue here. Starkholmes Allotments Association will raise the necessary funds to buy the land at an appropriate cost.
The site serves local people, young and old, enabling people to ‘grow their own’ whilst reaping the benefits to health and wellbeing.
