“I became president of the Society in 2009 after serving as Regional Rep for the Eastern Region for nine years. My allotment career started after retiring from teaching, and during that time I have been the treasurer and secretary of the Newmarket Allotment Association, running three self-managed sites with a membership of 280, and the founder secretary and chairman of the Suffolk county allotment federation. Now I am just a tenant with two plots (slightly smaller in size than the standard 10 poles each, as I’m taking it easy after heart surgery) and later this year I will celebrate having been married for 60 years.”
